Bodegas Viñátigo held last 17th of September the 7th edition of the Canary Islands’ Grapes and Wines Master Class & Tasting, which had an excellent reception from professional restaurateurs, viticulturists and winemakers who attended the event.

The number of applications sent to Bodegas Viñátigo for this new edition exceeded the most optimistic forecasts, receiving almost 200 requests.

The incredible amount of applications that the winery received exclusively by professionals (sommeliers, head waiters and waiters of the best restaurants of the Islands) proves the enormous interest of this Master Class, whose main objective is to give the professionals the knowledge and tools necessary to explain the special characteristics of the Canary Islands’ wines to the final consumer.

The Berry Sensory Assessment (BSA) is the method that has been used to do the tasting. A descriptive and sensory analysis by J. Rousseau and Deltail (Montpellier’s Institut Coopèratif in France), that has shown its usefulness and effectiveness in this kind of tastings.
Through this method, the Master Class’ attendants have learned how to taste the grapes, discover their characteristics and compare them to the wine produced from them.

Viñátigo’s Technical Director and Oenologist Juan Jesús Méndez, conducted the Master Class, an experience he considers that will allow the professionals to “know our grapes to understand our wines”. For Méndez Siverio “the grape variety, influenced by the soil, the weather and the winemaker, define the wine we will obtain”.
